The project „Museums over the borders” in the final of the REGIOSTARS contest 2020-07-15, Category: Programme news

The project “Museums over the borders”, which was implemented within the Lithuania-Poland-Russia Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013 by the museums from Elblag and Kaliningrad is in the final of the REGIOSTARS contest. Moreover, it has a chance to win the main prize in the category “Skills and Education for a digital Europe”. Reaching the final stage of the contest carries great distinction for both museums. It means that the project was chosen by the jury panel out of 206 applications submitted from the whole European Union.

The winners will be chosen by the jury panel who will take into account such criteria as innovative character, achieved results, durability of the project and possibilities of its adaptation in other regions. However, everyone can vote for their favourite project. On the basis of this vote, the project can also win the audience prize. In this respect, we really count on your support. To vote for the project “Museums over the borders”, you should go to the website https://regiostarsawards.eu/, scroll down to the 5th position and click on the “heart” icon on the right side (multiple voting is allowed). The voting will last until 15 September 2020. The results will be announced on 14 October 2020.

The success of the project is even more remarkable as it enabled both museums to implement their first large investments co-financed by the European Union. As a result, we can visit modern exhibitions presented in the renovated buildings and take advantage of the jointly created educational programme. Additionally, a holographic film that is shown in both museums continues to surprise and amuse the visitors, despite being six years old.

The project “Museum over the borders” implemented in 2012-2014 by the Museum of Archaeology and History in Elblag and the Museum “Friedland Gate” in Kaliningrad use common history to unite culture recipients on both sides of the Polish-Russian border. The achieved results – modern educational offers, innovative expositional solutions and unique attractions at the European level drawing tourists from Poland, Russia and abroad – have contributed to the growth in tourist traffic and evolution of the local communities. At present, these museums from Elblag and Kaliningrad, together with the Centre of European Meetings “Swiatowid”, are implementing the second stage of the project financed with the EU funds from the Poland-Russia Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014-2022.
