On the 25th of September, 2021 in Sovetsk, a bike ride targeted at general public was organised. Approximately 100 people took part in this event. It was held within the framework of the project ‘Gizycko and SoVeTSk – cooperation for the development of preservation of the historical, cultural and natural heritage in the cross-border area’ and the celebration of the European Cooperation Day.
Despite the windy and cool weather, the mood of the participants was cheerful. After the speech of the Mayor of Sovetsk, Mr Grigory Sokolovsky and the Head of the JTS Branch of the CBC Programme Poland-Russia 2014-2020 in Kaliningrad, Ms Tatyana Shitikova, cycling enthusiasts rode along the newly created cycle path. At the end of the bike ride a concert was held.
Due to the pandemic situation, representatives of the Polish beneficiary, the Municipality of Giżycko, could not join the event, but a teleconference was organised, showing the best moments of the event online.
Some of the cyclists did not stop at the finish line, and despite the cold weather, repeated race along the route "Sovetsk-Slavsk", covering a distance of about 40 kilometers. All participants received souvenirs with the logo of the Poland-Russia Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020.
