POLAND-RUSSIA Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014–2020
Last Friday (26th November), the 1st Polish-Russian Festival ‘Magic of the North’ took place. Among many invited guests, there were: Mr Sergey Semenov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Poland and Mr Leszek Buller, Director of the Center for European Projects. The meeting was also attended by Mr Alexander Kitaev, Head of Administration of the Gusev Municipal District, who took part in the event online.
The event was the result of cross-border cooperation between the Regional Cultural Center in Olecko ‘Mazury Garbate’ and the Administration of the Gusev City District. The first part of the festival took place on the Russian side – in Gusev (18-20 November, 2021), while the second part of it took place a week later in Olecko (23-28 November 2021).
The ‘Magic of the North’ in Olecko started with the Russian Fairy Tale Festival. Over 400 children watched Russian animated films. Moreover, they chose, in their opinion, ‘the best fairy tale’ of the festival.
The festival weekend began with vernissage of Tatiana Majewska's a arts and two live concerts. On Saturday, the participants of the festival took part in the culinary workshops on the cuisine of the Polish-Russian borderland and art workshops on painting matryoshka dolls. The attendance at the organised meetings exceeded the organisers' expectations. The musical part of the festival ended with a concert of "Russian Ballades and Romance". On Sunday, the youngest cinema lovers watched the fourth and last fairy tale as part of the Russian Fairy Tale Festival. For slightly older cinemagoers awaited a real feast.
Due to the due to the pandemic situation, the inhabitants of Gusev could not participate in the event in person. Nevertheless, the organiser provided on-line transmission.
